Computer Science & Applications

The Department of Computer Science and Computer Applications was started in the year of 2012 with two courses: B.Sc. (Computer Science) and B.C.A. The B.Sc. (CS) admitted 33 students and B.C.A. admitted 19 students. The aim of the courses was to promote women’s empowerment and the development of technical skills. In that year, we celebrated cultural events and the first-year meet. In the first semester, the students produced 100% results and 8 students scored centum. The student M. Hansiya Banu scored 97 marks in the major paper and A. Yasmeen scored 96 marks.

The year 2013 COMAPPS Association was inaugurated. The main aim of the association is to develop and conduct technical and research-oriented activities for student enrichment. A guest lecture titled “Technologies Behind Computers” was conducted, with Dr. T. Balasubramanian, Head of the Department of Computer Science, Sri Vidhya Mandir College, Kattari, Uthangarai, as the resource person. A total of 91 members participated in the program. The lecture focused on the significance of technology in education and research, business and industry, healthcare, communication, entertainment, government services, engineering and manufacturing, and banking and finance. The students secured a 100% result in the semester examination

The year 2014, M. Harsiya Banu secured the 7th rank in the Periyar University examination. The 2012–2015 batch produced 100% degree holders, marking the first academic achievement of the department. The students also achieved a 100% result in the semester examination. The department conducted a guest lecture program titled “Global Provider Technology & Job Well Fair”, with Mr. N. Sakthivel, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications, Adhiyaman Engineering College, Hosur, as the resource person. A total of 189 students benefited from the event. The fair also served as a platform for students and professionals to showcase skills, explore career options, and connect with global organizations seeking talent.

The year 2015, the Post Graduate course M.Sc. Computer Science was started, and thirteen PG students were admitted. The Department of Computer Science and Computer Applications, in collaboration with the COMAPPS Association, jointly organized its first one-day state-level seminar on Advanced Technologies in Computer Science, which was attended by 275 participants. The seminar highlighted the impact, potential, and future scope of advanced technologies, emphasizing the role of computer science in driving innovation and addressing complex global challenges.

The department also conducted an internal paper presentation event on “Recent Trends in Information Technology”, with 147 students and 6 staff members participating. A total of 25 papers were presented by students on various topics in information technology.

Another major event, the two-day National Conference on “Data Mining and Image Processing in the Modern World”, saw active participation from our college and other institutions, giving students an opportunity to showcase their talents. 180 students and 8 staff members participated in this conference.

Our students not only participated in events hosted by our college but also represented the institution in competitions at other colleges. For example, Secret Heart College, Thirupatur, conducted a national workshop on “Big Data Analytics”, attended by 16 students, who gained valuable technical knowledge on the topic.

In the academic record Excellency our students secured 100% result in the semester examination.

The year 2016, S.B. Sharmila, from the 2013–2016 B.Sc. Computer Science batch, secured 1st rank in the Periyar University examination. In that academic year, the students achieved a 100% pass result. To develop their skills, a seminar on “Research Methodology” was conducted, with Dr. Sangeetha, Head of the Department of Computer Science, Periyar University Constitutional College, Pappireddi Patti, as the chief guest. The scope of research methodology extends to all aspects of systematic investigation across disciplines, providing a structured approach to discovering, analyzing, and interpreting data.

The department also conducted two internal events associated with the COMAPPS chart- to-work and mini expo, in which 50 students actively participated and won prizes. In the

same year, a one-day workshop on “R Programming” was organized, with Dr. A. Geetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Chikanna Govt. Arts College, Thirupattur, as the resource person. All the students actively participated and gained valuable knowledge.

In the year 2017, A special lecture on “Project Preparation and Languages in Real-Time” was conducted, with Dr. V. Sangeetha, Head of the Department of Computer Science, Periyar University Constitutional College, Pappireddi Patti, as the chief guest. Final-year UG and PG students participated in the event.

The department also organized a one-day state-level workshop on hands-on training in R programming, with Dr. A. Geetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Chikanna Govt. Arts College, Thirupattur, as the resource person. Its scope extends across multiple domains, including data science, machine learning, bioinformatics, finance, and research analytics. All the students of the department benefited from this event.

The year 2018, S. Gomathi (BCA) secured 1st rank, H. Farzana(BCA) secured 2nd rank, and S. Priya(BCA) secured 7th rank in the Periyar University examination. The students secured 100% result in the semester examination.

In this year, a one-day national-level symposium on “Recent Trends in IT Industry – UBIQUIII-2K18” was conducted. The resource person was R.R. Suresh, Project Delivery Head (SAP), Client Line Software Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. 292 our college student and 50 from other five college students actively participated in the event. The symposium provided students and professionals with insights into the latest technological advancements, innovations, and industry practices shaping the modern digital landscape. It also included awareness of best practices, industry standards, and ethical considerations, ensuring that participants are well-prepared to meet current and future challenges in the IT sector.

The year 2019, I. Lakkiya P. (M.Sc Computer Science) secured the 7th rank in the Periyar University examinations. The students also achieved a 100% result in the semester examinations.
